VINZIRAST GETS YOU BACK ON YOUR FEET. SINCE 20 YEARS.
For years now, VinziRast has been doing more than only giving individuals experiencing homelessness a place to sleep. The organisation sees itself as a mediator building bridges between social extremes. It does this by tirelessly dismantling prejudice and creating opportunities for people to meet one another on equal terms. VinziRast projects focus on the dignity of every human being and show that help means more than providing material assistance. How does one make invisible stories visible? On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the interactive luminous figures – the ‘Glowing Wanderers’ – were created in cooperation with New York artist Fanny Allié. These artworks reimagined the mission of ‘VinziRast hilft auf’ by literally throwing light on otherwise invisible destinies. Design then becomes a medium for active listening: light is used as a way of attracting attention and digital storytelling is used as a door opener, letting affected individuals have a voice of their own. The installation proves that creative intervention works wherever it enables open dialogue and establishes a fresh approach to taboo topics.
